Greener Jobs Alliance & London Sustainability Exchange:
Busting air pollution – Citizen Science training for community members
There will be two meetings:
first on Wednesday, 26th July, 2017 18:30 – 20:30 pm London City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA
The second meeting will be in September
What is it about?
Air pollution in the UK is a public health emergency. Over 40,000 people die each year from the air that they breathe – more than obesity and alcohol combined. Workers are exposed to and create pollution to fulfil contractual obligations to employers.
It is an occupational health issue that employers take little responsibility for. Air quality is both a workplace issue and a public health one. Trades Union Councils are well placed to provide a collective voice on matters that impact on more than one sector of employment.
We invite community representatives to come along to our Citizens Science training event to gain knowledge and tools allowing them to collect evidence on poor air quality, which can then be used to get employers to put air quality on the agenda.
- Train community representatives in air pollution busting Citizen Science techniques .
- Create action plans on how to meaningfully engage in air pollution with our elected representatives .
- Share experience, knowledge and ideas
