Consultation for closure of Wimbledon Police station

Wimbledon Police Station

From Steve Wallace – Merton Police Borough commander.

As you are already aware the Met are consulting on further closures of police stations and how we provide front office provision. We are very aware of the concerns being raised, and the petition that is being collated.

The consultation website is live until 6 October – and please complete if you haven’t already done so and please share with your networks and contacts.

The potential implications for Merton are significant – see P27 on proposals on linked document. The existing 24/7 front counter is at Wimbledon. The MPS proposes moving this to Mitcham which is currently a daytime facility. Wimbledon Station could then be sold and response policing will probably be based from Mitcham along with SNT staff. It is anticipated an office/base for local SNT staff will be required in Wimbledon.

As well as other events a larger public consultation meeting will take place on the 26th September 2017. Present will be a senior member of the Mayor’s Office on Police and Crime, as well as myself the Merton Police Borough Commander.

This meeting will be between 6:30PM and 8PM at:

The School Hall
Wimbledon Chase Primary School
Merton Hall Road
Wimbledon, SW19 3QB

The hall has a capacity for about 200 people and there is parking at the school available on a first come first served basis.
