As we mark 76 years since the end of World War II in Europe its a great chance to look at these amazing videos of local residents telling their experiences of being evacuated from London during the outbreak of war.
These video were made as part of the HYPER project ( Heritage, Young People, Elderly Residents ) and collaboration between The Colliers Wood Residents Association, The Association for Polish Families, Wimbledon Woodcraft Folk and Sustainable Merton
It’s purpose was to enable young people to explore first hand the lives and stories of those children who were evacuated from the local area of Colliers Wood in South West London as part of Operation Pied Piper in 1939.
In addition, we have learned about life and growing up in the 1940’s during WWII both in London and the Home counties.
